Research Week

So we had a week off last week because it was research week and all our lectures were cancelled. We had work to do over the week though so it wasn't a nice break. For Sian we had to do a mini assignment to practise referencing and writing at a higher level. I found that quite hard because it was the first time that I had tried out my referencing skills and realised that I didn't have any. For Mandy we had to work in a group and create a wiki page about education in the past/present/future. My group was Sara, Amy and Stacey. I found it easier to work in a group because there are more ideas when there are more of you.

Reflective Learning

My blog is going to be a way for me to reflect upon my own learning. This means to look at what I have learnt, what went well or what I found easy and also what I struggled with. A good way to do this is to keep a diary of things that I have learnt so that I can look back on them...which brings me back to my blog. At first I thought the concept of a blog wouldn't be very useful to me in my time in university, however now I can see what the point is. It will help me to keep a track of my studies and make steady progress, and if at any point I need to look back then I can see what I previously might have struggled with and why, then being able to overcome it. Reflective learning is about evaluating everything and making it all fit in and come together. My blog may help to motivate me with my studies as it is personal and includes my thoughts and feelings about my learning. I will be able to reflect upon which strategies of learning I find most useful and why. All in all, I think it's a pretty good idea!

Evaluation!

As a project, we had to select a website to present our ideas. It can be difficult though to find a valid website that isn't for example biased or that uses incorrect information. There are a few ways to determine whether a website is trustworthy or not, by checking them on easywhois for example to see who actually owns the website. The website we chose was called digi-promotions and gave a lot of information about Japan for those who were thinking of travelling there or just wanted to know more about the country. The website contained lots of information and was proven to be valid when checked on easywhois. It did have advertisements but they were relevant to the topic of the website which was a sign that it was legitimate. This process opened my eyes to a lot of the rubbish on the web and how to check whether the website is worth using or not.

About Me

I'm Rhi. I live in Swanseaaa! I'm 18 and still live at home with my mum and dad where they do my washing for me :) but I spend most of my time at my boyfriend's who also lives in Swansea. I have an older brother and sister who still live at home too. I'm in Swansea Met Uni because I have always wanted to be a teacher, ever since I was little. I work as a swimming instructor which is not a very glamorous job but I love it because I love the kids I work with. I'm hoping to get on the PGCE course after I have finished my degree in education so I can be a teacher.
