Today I have started sewing my cushion. It is a bit more difficult than I anticipated so some of the shapes aren't as great as I would have like.
I have uploaded a photo of what I have done so far today....

Project Update
Claude Monet was born in Paris. He was a founder of French impressionist painting. He painted many pictures of water and scenery of the sea which is why I chose to look at his work for my projcet.

Project Update
I have chosen the colours and materials that I am going to use to make my cushion. The fabric is called silk noil and I picked it because it is so soft! I have dyed the fabric to the colour I want it and have left it to dry. Next I will iron the fabric to make the dye stick and start sewing away! I have always enjoyed sewing as my mum has always tried to teach me how to do it because most of the women on her side of the family are good at it. She is letting me use her sewing machine (uh oh) to make the cushion and sew on the shape of the wave. I made a template for the cushion by drawing shapes and patterns onto paper before transferring them onto the fabric. I have never been great at drawing so I am hoping that at the end of this, you will be able to tell what shape is on the cushion! .....In case you can't....it is a wave.
Project Update
I have finished my sketch book....finally! Which is why I haven't been updating my blog recently. I first made a mind map to decide which subject to base my project on. As I said in my previous post, I decided to base it upon the theme of water and the beach. I looked at different aspects of the beach which I have always associated with it. I looked at different shells first by drawing them and then cutting them out in different colours and materials before putting them in my sketch book. I did this so that I could see which colours and shapes I thought worked best together.
Next I looked at sea creatures and used the website www.tagxedo.com to create images of sea creatures using words that I think of when I picture the beach. I mainly have used the colour blue throughout the later pages of my sketch book as that is the main colour for my theme.

Next, I looked at the artist Claude Monet. I chose this artist because I really enjoy his work and he incorporates many images of water in his paintings. I chose a few of his paintings I liked best that showed how talented he was at painting water. Many of the images are of the sea which is what I wanted to use for my final piece. At this stage I had not yet decided what I wanted to make for my final piece but I knew that I wanted to somehow use imagery of the ocean.

My project
I spent loads of time thinking about what to do my project on so to help me choose I made a mind map on the first page of my sketch book. I have decided to theme it around water and the beach as I have always loved the water and I feel really peaceful and relaxed when I am swimming. I am going to make a cushion with a sea related theme to try and bring elements of the beach and water home to have in my bedroom.
